Rock’s Top 15 East Coast Canadian Releases of 2014

Hey folks! It’s that time of year again out with the old in with the new, but before I do that I thought I’d give a well deserved nod to some albums that I really enjoyed that came out this year. It’s no secret that I love a multitude of music genres, and that is reflected here in my list. This was no easy task but I think I came up with a really solid list. I tried to focus on songwriting, playing and groove of these song collections and forgive some production deficiencies in some cases, but not entirely. I should also say that I have seen every one of these artists live this year with the exception of two. Here we go!

THINGS AREN’T ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEM.

IntrovertRecently I read an article on The Huffington Post called “10 ways introverts interact differently with the world”. I am very much an introvert. To some that may be a surprising declaration, to many who know me well this is no surprise at all. I was amazed at how on point the article was in relation to myself. I thought I’d share my version with you all taking their points and adding my personal experience. Read More…

SUMMER OF ROCK!!

RockHi world. It’s been a long time. I’ve been busy having a time, but I felt I needed to write… something, anything that comes to mind. So here goes… To say I’m having an amazing summer is an understatement. It has been a magical few months so far with plenty more action all the way into October! OCTOBER!!! So many concerts, festivals, ball games, golf games, parties and camping trips I hardly feel like I even work anymore. Read More…

If You Can’t Say Something Nice…

amor-shut-up

What is going on with musicians these days? Seriously folks, everywhere I look musicians are taking every opportunity to bash other musicians, be it unknown to world famous everyone is under attack and it needs to stop. Think of all the time and effort that goes into bashing Nickleback and Justin Bieber, which is all effort that is not being put into pushing artists that you love.
Do you ever wonder why commercial radio has been playing the same songs for 30 years? Read More…

Enough Already

no_social_media1

Purely speaking as a fan of music, and ignoring the fact that I am a deranged musician as much as I can, I can honestly say it’s still about the music for me.

Music is not a disposable commodity for me, it is the one thing I have always found passion in, even as a toddler I was fascinated with it. As an adult, I have based my whole life around it. It fuels me, it’s a hard earned gift I refuse to take for granted. Lately as a fan I have been annoyed, here’s why. Read More…

Stop Beating Yourself Up!!

PINK-MIRRORSeriously folks, stop beating yourself up for everything you think you are not and start celebrating who you are, what you’ve accomplished, what you enjoy and what you are good at. Despite what we’ve been led to believe, having a healthy ego is not a crime against fellow human beings, it’s what helps us evolve. People with a good sense of self are more likely to try new things, and be successful in their goals. They are also the type of people who change the world by asking questions and forming their own opinions instead of accepting things for “the way it is”. I hate when people say, “That is just the way it is.”, such a complete and total cop out. That line might as well be the bumper sticker slogan for apathy across the world. Read More…

Chaos Theory CD Release Recap

Chaos-Theory-Apr28-0099Well where do I start? In one word, humbled. A year ago we were playing shows to the back wall, the other bands on the bill, and the girlfriends of the band members. Last night we played to around 200 of the most amazing supporters of our local music scene I have ever witnessed. Seriously, we could not have asked for a better night, it by far exceeded all of our expectations. It all really hit me when I finally laid my head down to sleep at 7 AM this morning and I realized how far we have come in 16 months and how lucky we are to be surrounded by such great people. April Assault IV

April-Assault-IV1It’s weekends like this that remind me how much I love music. It’s one thing to love to create your own music and be passionate, but to be a fan and absorb others contributions to the musical community is something completely different. Every band I saw this weekend brought something a little different, and each one wowed me in a different way. These shows don’t happen by accident, there is a tonne of work to bring a two day event like this together and pull it off without incident. A HUGE thank you to the boys in Severed Reign for making this event happen, and also to the other bands who took part, their professionalism allowed for a smooth running show to flow brilliantly on tight schedule! Well isn’t that something!

Guitar-Money-1802290Well after whirlwind year and a half we (Chaos Theory) have achieved our first major milestone with the release of our debut album!! I won’t lie, this being the third release I have been involved with in the last 8 months, I haven’t really had time to sit back and enjoy any of these accomplishments, until this moment! You see up until November I had always had a day job as well as running around keeping things moving and flowing in five different bands, which I’ll admit is overwhelming sometimes and bordering on lunatic behavior, but since I was laid off from my position and haven’t seen a lot of postings for accounting work in my area, I decided to use my music as a form of income and… I have never been happier! Why Wait?

happiness_bulldogdrummondI like to consider myself an optimistic person. I choose to not dwell on the downside of life and really put my energy towards forward thinking and positivity. I am baffled at why other choose not to do this. We are all in control of our own lives and removing terms like “I can’t” and replacing them with “I will” is the first step to self propelled happiness. Read More…
